what kind of music do you perform?
We are proud to be a choir that chooses a diverse array of music. In the past we have performed classical choral compositions, pieces by womxn composers, music from Latin America, spirituals, and contemporary works from across the world.
Who can join tapestry?
We hold auditions every season and would love to hear you! We are looking for down-to-earth people who can blend, sight-read, and have some choral or a cappella background. Our numbers are flexible but tend to fall around 30 people per season.
When and Where are rehearsals?
WHEN: We rehearse on Monday nights from 7:00pm - 9:30pm. Every now and then our rehearsals might run a little longer, or if our rehearsal season is short we might add a Saturday rehearsal, but you’ll know about those far in advance.
WHERE: We are proud to be a choir in residence at St. John’s Church in the Village, located at 218 West 11th Street in the West Village.
How many performances per year do you have?
Tapestry performs two seasons per year, a Fall Season and a Spring Season. Each season has 1-2 concerts (usually a Saturday night, and sometimes a Thursday as well).
Our concerts typically fall around the second week of December and the last week of May. We have a break from June to early September (though that doesn’t stop us from hanging out with each other all summer long!).
How much are tickets to your CONCERTS?
Tickets to our concerts are $25. Presale tickets will be available for purchase here on our website, and we also accept cash and cards at the door, so please allot enough time to arrive and purchase tickets.
If I donate, where do funds go?
All donations to Tapestry are tax-deductible as we are a 501(c)3 not-for-profit organization. Donations fund many things that help us to continue operating, including:
Our sheet music.
Our rehearsal space and performance space.
Our collaborative pianist.
Other instrumentalists (when needed).
Our Artistic Director’s salary.
Commissions, recordings, and other special projects.
